Tesco also scooped the prize for Best Direct Credit Card Provider, Best Direct Travel Insurance Provider and Best Direct Pet Insurance Provider at the awards ceremony in London last night.

Meanwhile, the title of Best Overall Online Provider went to Nationwide, which bagged five awards in total.

Now in their 18^th year, the YourMoney.com Awards are the longest-standing consumer finance awards in the UK.

They are split into two categories: Best Direct for those products and services offered by phone, and Best Online for those provided electronically.

All entrants are subjected to a rigorous judging process based on competitiveness of price and structure. Short-listed firms are then judged by a panel of readers who mystery shop each company and benchmark the quality of service provided in each product area.
