TV licence fee on the up again
The TV licence fee will rise to £150.50 per year from April, it has been announced.
The cost of renewing the BBC TV licence fee will rise by £3.50 a year for colour sets, up from the current £147.
For viewers with a black and white TV, the fee will rise by £1 to £50.50 on 1 April.
There’s no change to the free over 75s TV licence but for the blind, there is still a 50% concession, though this price will rise by £1.75 to £75.25.
If you’re on a payment plan before 1 April 2018. You will continue to pay towards the £147 cost until the licence is due to be renewed.
This is the second rise in the BBC licence fee since 2016 where it stood at £145.50 per year and comes after the BBC iPlayer “loophole” was closed meaning if you watch catch-up television or programmes on demand, you’ll need a TV licence or you face a £1,000 fine.
