In the lead up to Valentine’s Day, online money transfer provider Azimo has revealed that the UK is the most expensive country in the world for a Valentine’s date.

The average cost of a Valentine’s date in the UK comes in at £138.63. The US (£105.62), Germany (£103.10), Argentina (£93.74) and Nigeria (£90.83) made up the rest of the top five.

If, however, you’re looking for an inexpensive date, the Philippines should be your destination of choice; a typical Valentine’s date will cost just £37.05. Other cheap and cheerful locales included Bangladesh (£48.15), Colombia (£56.12), Poland (£66.34) and Thailand (£71.85).

“Our data show that Azimo’s more romantic customers will have to fork out considerably for a magical Valentine’s Day in the UK than in other countries around the world,” said Michael Kent, Azimo’s CEO.

The following table illustrates the average cost of typical Valentine’s Day activities and gifts in different countries – although, if anyone knows of a mid-range restaurant that offers a bottle of wine for £6.99 (that isn’t bring your own), do get in touch with us at Your Money.
