Specialist medical travel insurance provider AllClear has launched the first website to enable travellers with pre-existing medical conditions who are planning a cruise to compare insurance providers, find a quote, and purchase cover online in a single visit.

The new site – Allclearcruise.co.uk – offers a variety of cruise-specific travel insurance quotes from a range of different providers. AllClear also runs the specialist medical travel insurance comparison website, AllClear Options.

Mike Rutherford, Chairman and co-founder of AllClear, said that cruise travel insurance differs from ‘standard’ travel insurance in that there are many more risks to consider: “A cruise is often a once in a lifetime experience and considerably expensive,” he said. “As such, standard cancellation cover (sometimes as low as £1,000) will go nowhere near covering the cost if the holiday has to be cancelled.”

He said holidaymakers also need to consider being confined to a cabin due to illness; unused excursions; missed port departure; and itinerary change, all of which can be covered by specialist Cruise Insurance.

The cruise market continues to grow worldwide with 11 new cruise ships due to be launched in the next 12 months. The forecast for UK and Ireland is for more than 1.7 million cruise passengers for 2014 – an increase of more than 16% over the past five years according to CLIA, the Cruise Lines International Association. Cruise is one of the only areas of travel where insurance is obligatory.

All of the providers featured on the site specialise in covering holidaymakers with medical conditions including: diabetes; angina; arthritis; asthma; cancer; heart conditions; high blood pressure; high cholesterol; epilepsy; stroke and many more.

Rutherfood added: “Buying cruise insurance can be a challenge, especially for the more mature traveller, so being able to compare providers, levels of cover, and costs on a single site will greatly simplify the process and give travellers more comfort that whatever happens, they will be covered.”
