Holidaymakers from the UK may not have adequate travel insurance, according to research carried out by Hiscox.

It reveals that 19% of respondents say either they have not taken out any travel insurance, or think they are covered under another policy such as their health insurance, or they don’t know whether they have any cover.

The study showed that around 18% think their travel agent or airline would refund them if a flight was cancelled, 21 % believe a travel industry body would cover them for a flight cancellation, 26 % think they are covered by a travel policy from their bank account, 13% of respondents are not sure if they are covered against flight cancellation, and only 36% of adventure sports lovers ever check the status of their travel insurance before going on a holiday.

Hiscox urges holidaymakers to check their insurance details and take out comprehensive cover before travelling.
