Many consumers get caught out when it comes to informing their car insurer of a simple change in personal details, resulting in a loss of cover, according to the Post Office.

Typical instances in which consumers must inform their insurers of a change in details range from moving house to changing jobs or going into retirement. The Post Office has, therefore, compiled a check list to remind consumers of the various changes in personal circumstances insurers must be informed of.

Phil Ashkuri, head of car insurance at the Post Office, said: “If your personal situation changes in any way, tell your insurer. It’s the best way to avoid running into problems should you be unfortunate enough to have an accident or need to make a claim.”
