KNOW YOUR RIGHTS

IT IS IN everyone’s interest that you get the right life insurance policy but there is a 14-day ‘cooling off’ period available during which time you can tell the insurer you do not want the policy and receive a refund of initial premiums you may have paid. You can of course cancel the policy at any time after this but will not get back your premiums.

There is always a small chance that things will go wrong and you want to make a complaint. Your life insurance policy document will give details of the complaint procedures open to you, although generally speaking the aim of the procedure is to make sure your complaint is investigated at the right level.

If you are not satisfied with the way your complaint is dealt with you can contact the Financial Ombudsman directly at South Quay Plaza, 183 Marsh Wall, London E14 9SR: Tel: 0845 080 1800.

For a fuller explanation of life insurance generally, go to the Association of British Insurers (ABI) at www.abi.org.uk
