Thomas Daigle, 77, started savings the pennies when he and his wife moved into their home in 1977, after his wife teased him for picking up a penny from the pavement.

The Milford Daily News reported that tellers at the branch of the Milford Federal Savings and Loan took two days to count the money.

Daigle told the paper: “It was something I wanted to do – I always follow through.”
