HSBC, the UK’s largest high street bank, has warned that it is considering introducing extra charges to customers who go into the red.

The bank said there is” a possibility” it will levy additional fees for overdrawn customers if the Office of Fair Trading cracks down on the fees charged to people who go over their limits.

The OFT intends to look at overdraft charges, having already told the major banks to cut charges to people who fail to pay their credit card bills from £20-£25 a time to just £12.
