A significant 30% of people are hiding a financial secret from their partner, according to a survey by Cater Allen Bank, with 25 to 34 year olds the most likely to withhold financial details from their partner.

According to the research, 27% of women have lied to their partner about the cost of the clothes they purchase while 28% of men have lied about the cost of a gadget they have bought.

Those in Wales and the South West are the least likely to keep financial secrets from their partners, whilst those in Scotland and the South East of England are the most likely to lie about their salaries.

Scots are the least likely to open a joint bank account, and whilst men are more in favour of a dual account than women, 1 in 10 of us think you should open an account with your partner as soon as you move in together. But 24 per cent of people think you should never have joint account with your partner.
