A man and a woman both from Outer London have each won the million-pound Premium Bonds prize for August’s draw. Is it you?

This month’s lucky Premium Bonds holders become the 391st and 392nd winners of the top £1m prize.

Premium Bonds offered by the government-backed National Savings & Investments (NS&I) are the UK’s most popular savings product. Each £1 bond is entered into a monthly draw, with two lucky bondholders bagging £1m each.

However, there are a host of other prizes too, ranging in size from £25 to £100,000. In total for the August draw, more than three million prizes will be paid out, worth more than £88.5m. See YourMoney’s Premium Bonds guide for more information.

Prepare for a knock at your door from ‘agent million’

The woman from Outer London bought her winning Bond in June 2012, and currently has £29,700 invested. The winning bond number is 193WA458843 and while she’s registered to have her prizes reinvested, her win this month will be given in person by ‘agent million’.

The man, also from Outer London, bought his winning bond in June 2015, and currently has the maximum £50,000 invested. The winning bond number is 247YN655471. He too has registered to have his prizes paid directly into his bank account, but he’ll also get a knock at the door.

Jill Waters, retail director at NS&I, said: “The randomness of the Premium Bond draw has struck again as the two jackpot winners are from the same region. This is just the fourth time that this has happened, with the last occurrence happening in July 2016. Each £1 bond has an equal chance of winning and each investment, no matter the size, has an opportunity to win a prize.

“However, the more bonds you own, the more likely you are to win, and one of this month’s millionaires shows that you don’t have to the £50,000 maximum invested to win big.”

Unclaimed Premium Bond prizes

In total, there are around 1.5 million unclaimed prizes worth over £59m, with the highest value in Outer London. There are 172,000 prizes waiting to be claimed, worth £6.7m.

This includes a life-changing £100,000 win, from February 2007 where the winner had just £25 invested. The winning bond number is 8LK522839. There are also four £10,000 unclaimed prizes in the region.

Premium Bonds prizes may go unclaimed as a result of NS&I not being informed of changes to contact details or if Premium Bonds were bought for a customer as a child and they have subsequently lost track of them.

You can check the Premium Bonds prize checker on the NS&I site or you can write to NS&I, quoting your name and address, any former names and addresses, date of birth and your Premium Bonds holder’s number (if known) and it will search to see if you’re a lucky recipient.

To keep track, you can opt to have prizes paid directly to your bank account, or to have the prizes auto-reinvested to be eligible for the next Premium Bonds draw, as long as the total is below the maximum threshold of £50,000.
