One in 10 car owners has no idea what their car insurances covers them for, a survey for online motor insurer easyMoney.com has found.

More than 10% of Brits are clueless about what they are paying for when it comes to car insurance, with 14% admitting they are not sure whether they would be insured if their car was stolen and 15% saying they wouldn’t expect cover in the event of a fire.

Keith Lewis, spokesperson for easyMoney.com said: “In reality, everyone with comprehensive or third part, fire and theft car insurance would be insured.” 

Female car drivers are the most ignorant, as nearly one in eight confessed they did not know what their premiums were getting them.

Despite this, 68% of car drivers said they were confident their insurance was value for money.
