The sale of houses in England and Wales jumped by 37% this quarter compared with the same period in 2005, new research has found.

The latest residential property price report from Land Registry found that sales in sales in Greater London increased the most, having risen by 40.66 per cent compared to the same period last year.

Additionally, average house prices in England and Wales rose by 5.05%, up to £192,745.
Some 1,032 properties worth over £1 million were also sold between January and March, up on the 655 properties sold in the period last year.
