Nearly two million pensioners are failing to claim council tax benefit to which they are entitled, according to Age Concern.
“Claiming this benefit could save some pensioners £500 a year,” said Gordon Lishman, director general of Age Concern. “But many are reluctant to take it because they feel it is charitable giveaway and incurs a stigma by accepting it.”
“Millions of pensioners across the UK are struggling to manage on a really low fixed income and are increasingly anxious about their bills,” he added.
“They should not suffer such anxiety and the benefit is an entitlement not charity.”
