The Royal Bank of Scotland will test new “tap and go” credit and debit cards for transactions under £10.
The pilot scheme, scheduled for this summer in conjunction with Mastercard, will allow consumers to use their cards to pay for low-value goods in shops, fast-food outlets, and some vending machines and parking meters.
Instead of using cash, consumers will tap the card at pay points and the relevant amount will be deducted from it.
