Sky has hit back at BT with a new offer of free unlimited broadband for Sky Sports customers.

In response to BT’s recent offer of free Premier League football coverage to its broadband customers, Sky has announced that its Sky TV customers with Sky sports, both new and existing, will get 12 months free Sky Broadband Unlimited or six months free Sky Fibre Unlimited (£20 a month thereafter).

This offer is valid to all customers who switch their broadband to Sky Broadband Unlimited or upgrade to Sky Fibre Unlimited.

Dominic Baliszewski, telecoms expert at broadbandchoices.co.uk, said: “The market has been waiting for Sky to react to BT’s sports TV launch with some kind of special offer and they haven’t disappointed.

“On the face of it, BT and Sky are offering opposing deals – BT offers free sports content with your broadband, whilst Sky is offering free broadband with your Sports content. However customers will need to do their homework if they want to make the most of these offers and choose a package that suits their needs.

“Sky’s lowest pricing for Sports content may be higher than BT’s, but it is important to remember the range of content that they offer. Sky still has the most comprehensive sports TV coverage on the market and for a lot of sports-mad fans that is the most important thing.

“That being said, customers who have shunned sports packages because of the expense now have a viable alternative in BT that will give them a dose of sporting action when they need it.”
