The average UK house price is now over £230,000 but head abroad and this could get you a French villa or a Florida mansion.

House prices in England and Wales reached an all-time peak in July, driven primarily by huge demand for property in the capital.

Prices increased by £5,796 over the last year, reaching a high of £232,969 and beating the previous peak in 2008.

But what can you actually get for this handsome some of money?

In London, for £230,000, you can expect to get, at most, a maisonette or two bedroom flat in Zone 3.

Venture out of the capital and you could be the owner of a three bed house complete with a private garden and two parking spaces in Bracknell.

But if you cast your net further you will get far more for your money.

The Overseas Guides Company reveals just what your £230k would get you:

In the popular expat destination of Murcia, Spain, for less than £230,000 you could purchase a five bedroom town house complete with a private pool.

If France is more your thing, a three bedroom detached character cottage complete with gite complex (with rental potential), a swimming pool and huge garden in the Dordogne could be yours for the same price (pictured below).

In Turkey you can snap up a luxury four bedroom villa with Kalkan Bay views, complete with Jacuzzi, infinity swimming pool, private gated entrance and luxury fixtures and fittings for just under the £230k mark (pictured below).

If you were to transfer your attention over the pond to Florida you could snap up this enormous five bedroom home complete with theatre room, billiard room and swimming pool with mini-waterfall feature, for much the same price. This impressive property is located on a gated golf complex in the highly sought-after area of Winter Garden, just a few miles west of Orlando and all of its plentiful attractions (pictured below).

If life in the UK has left you craving a slice of country life, then this luxury local stone villa set in 4000sqm of olive groves will provide you with all of the peace and quiet you need. This property in Brindisi has three bedrooms, each with en suites, a number of spacious reception rooms and a huge patio complete with swimming pool and barbeque area (pictured below).
