Online broker Strawberry Invest has launched a new tool allowing investors to test out portfolio ideas before opening an account.

The Strawberry Research Centre lets customers analyse the investments they think they might purchase according to asset mix, region and past performance.

They can chart performance, compare funds and see how different combinations of investments work together.

A speedy ‘checkout’ function enables investors to easily buy the funds they have tested.

James Priday, managing director of Strawberry Invest, said the tool is ideal for hands-on beginners as well as experienced savers.

“We want to give investors as much information and as many tools as they need to help them look after their own investments and make their own decisions,” he said.

“The Research Centre is a freely available tool for any investor to test out their portfolio ideas to ensure it fits with their objectives and risk preference.”

Strawberry Invest pledged to give customers a “lower cost and more straightforward” solution to its rivals when it launched earlier this year.

The broker charges an annual platform fee of 0.35 per cent on the first £50,000, 0.25 per cent for portfolios valued at between £50,001 and £1m, and 0.1 per cent for portfolios over £1m.

An annual platform charge of 0.10 per cent applies to portfolios valued at more than £1m.
