Buy now pay later (BNPL) lender Laybuy has launched a smartphone app that lets UK shoppers pay in instalments with brands including Amazon, eBay, Asos, EasyJet and Nike.

Laybuy enables shoppers to split payment for purchases into six interest-free instalments. The app means customers can pay for goods this way at more than 5,000 online stores, as well as in physical shops.

To shop online and delay payment, shoppers need to sign-up to Laybuy, download the app, and then search for the brand they require within the built-in ‘shop directory’ on their smartphone or tablet.

From there, the retailer’s website will load as normal within the Laybuy app. At the checkout, the customer’s details will be automatically completed, allowing them to pay for their purchases using Laybuy.

The Laybuy app means shoppers can spread the cost of holidays and travel for the first time with brands such as EasyJet and Booking.com.

The move follows the launch in June of the Laybuy BNPL Mastercard which allows customers to use BNPL in-store through a digital card stored within the customers smart phone digital wallet.

Gary Rohloff, Laybuy managing director and co-founder, said: “Today’s launch is a significant step towards Laybuy’s goal of making Laybuy available everywhere. Not all shops accept BNPL or often it’s a different provider. This is a real game changer and means Laybuy will soon be available in the UK at more than 5,000 brands. Now people have the choice to shop using Laybuy at Amazon, ASOS, eBay or even EasyJet.”

Laybuy was criticised by the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) earlier this year after a Laybuy advert claimed that the BNPL lender carrying out a credit check would not affect a borrower’s credit score.

But a borrower, who believed their credit score had been affected by Laybuy’s credit check, complained to the regulator that the statement was misleading. The ASA agreed and upheld the complaint.
