EU could force £11 debit card charge on Brits; new Bank Governor greeted by signs of economic recovery; Sainsbury’s teams with Vodafone to launch phone service.

The European Commission has proposed changing rules that would force banks to introduce annual charges of £11 on debit cards and £25 on credit cards, The Telegraph reported.

Rothschild looks set to be named by the government as the adviser to run assessment for the potential split of the Royal Bank of Scotland into a good bank and bad bank, the Financial Times reported.

The Bank of England’s new Governor Mark Carney started his first day on Monday with stronger economic readings that will raise questions over whether policymakers will back a new round of monetary easing, according to The Times.
