The freshest supermarket offers this year come in the shape of Dry January offers, huge price drops and the usual dose of price matching.

One forecast this week has shown food prices are set to rise by 4% this year as shop price deflation is set to be “a thing of the past”, according to the chief executive of the British Retail Consortium (BRC).

But to ease your spending as you begin 2025, YourMoney.com has scanned the best of the British aisles and picked out the cheapest options for your trolley.

Here is a round-up of the best deals available in January:

Aldi

Aldi was crowned the cheapest supermarket in 2024 for the fourth year in a row and celebrated by launching a £20,000 competition for one lucky winner.

One winner will bag the equivalent of four years’ worth of spending in vouchers in store.

The budget retailer is toasting victory by embracing Dry January and launching 0% or low ABV drinks for less than £1.

Pre-mixed cans of gin and tonic and bottles of Prosecco without the booze, or ‘Zerozecco’, are part of the special offer for those kicking off the year sober.

The non-boozy beverages on offer are:

  • Greyson’s 0% London Dry and Tonic (79p, 250ml)
  • Greyson’s 0% Pink Berries and Lemonade Can (79p, 250ml)
  • Greyson’s 0% London Dry (£8.99, 70cl)
  • Greyson’s 0% Pink Berries (£8.99, 70cl)
  • Zerozecco Rosé (£2.99, 75cl)
  • Zerozecco (£2.99, 75cl)
  • Rheinbacher 0% Pilsner (£2.99, 6 x 330ml)
  • Sainte Etienne 0% Lager (99p, 500ml)

Asda

Asda has welcomed in 2025 with a huge price drop slapped on 2,500 everyday essentials, with an average reduction of 26%, according to the retailer.

Its ‘Big Jan Price Drop’ has a wide range of discounts on items including coffee, chicken and cheese.

David Hills, Asda’s chief customer officer, said: “Our Big Jan Price Drop aims to ease that burden and make money stretch further for our customers by reducing the prices of the products they’re buying week in, week out, continuing to offer uncompromising value to all.”

Morrisons

Morrisons has started the year by expanding its price match of budget rivals Aldi and Lidl on more than 500 household family favourites.

The freshly discounted deals will be available in store and online.

Products include pasta sauce, eggs and olive oil, and the supermarket first launched this offer last year.

It joined Tesco and Sainsbury’s in taking on the cheaper rivals by copying prices on some goods.

However, an investigation found that Tesco was price-matching products that were not the same as its rival Aldi.

Iceland

Iceland has launched what the retailer is calling its biggest ever deal event with a £1 or less price tag on over 1,000 products.

The frozen treats included in the deal include breaded king prawns, Chicago Town pizzas, Richmond pork sausages and Birds Eye chicken fingers.

Shoppers can purchase the cheap eats online and in store, and the frozen specialist has also relaunched a flurry of deals for households to enjoy.

These include the 10 for £10 offer, buy two get one free and half-price items throughout January.

Richard Walker, Iceland Foods’ executive chair, said: “We know families are looking to reduce spending in all aspects of everyday life and we know that we need to do our bit to help.

“January will be a struggle for millions, it’s no secret that bills are going to rise and it’s going to hit some families extremely hard. That’s why we’re stepping up, expanding our £1 or less lines and introducing hundreds of deals. We’re here to help this January.”
