Telecoms company Plusnet is upping the price of its BT Sport add-on from £5 to £10 a month from 17 September.

Customers have been informed of the 100 per cent price hike by a notification saying: “This is so BT Sport can continue to give you all the great exclusive content you’ve come to expect.”

BT Sport Lite is included with YouView TV from Plusnet, so customers can watch 42 exclusive Premier League games as standard.

Customers can choose to add the BT Sport app to their package. This gives them access to BT Sport 1 HD, BT Sport 2 HD, BT Sport 3 HD, BT Sport // ESPN HD, and BoxNation. BT Sport subscribers can watch live coverage of the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League.

Up until now BT Sport has cost £5 a month on top of the customer’s package – but the cost will jump to £10 a month from 17 September.

However, because BT Sport is added on a rolling monthly contract, customers who don’t want to pay the inflated cost can cancel the feature without penalty.

Angry Plusnet customers have taken to Twitter to complain about the price hike. Plusnet has responded by Tweeting: “At Plusnet we believe in giving our customers the best service and value possible. That’s why our BT Sport App and BT Sport channel package will continue to give customers great content, at one of the most competitive prices in the market.”

The price hike brings Plusnet’s BT Sport price in line with the £10 a month price offered by BT itself. BT hiked prices for BT Sport and TV customers last month.
