Find out what additional benefits you could get with your protection policy.

A popular trend in the protection market is for providers to add additional benefits to your policy. Many are automatically included within the price.

While added benefits may not be the sole reason to go with a product or provider, it is certainly worth being aware of what is included in your policy.

Below is a list of the most popular critical illness add-ons:

Red Arc

Red Arc is a care advisory service providing information, advice and emotional support to people when they need it most. Put simply, it provides an important counselling and support option to people diagnosed with a serious illness, as well as their families.

Best Doctors

Best Doctors provides access to a database of 50,000 leading medical specialists in over 400 different areas of medical discipline. In the event of a diagnosis, policies with Best Doctors have access to a second opinion from a specialist in that field, which could be invaluable.

Vitality

The Vitality programme rewards people who look after their health by reducing their monthly insurance premiums as well as offering a range of discounts including gym membership, holidays, travel and cinema tickets.

The programme could help people who are already active to save hundreds of pounds a year.

Road to Health

Road to Health provides an online health assessment system which scores your progress and compares it with people of the same age and gender.

The intelligent system calculates how healthy you are on a regular basis and suggests simples steps to help set and achieve personal goals.

Those who engage can earn points which can be redeemed against a range of health products.

Children’s Cover

Most insurers automatically include cover for the policyholder’s children, although the details will vary from insurer to the next. Read the policy document first.

Legal support and moving home

Most providers offer free legal assistance in certain situations. Rescue services are also available with some providers designed to help protect clients and their immediate family, for example, on the day of moving home.

Benefits can include car recovery if the client’s car breaks down, help if the removal van doesn’t arrive and hotel accommodation if the vendor hasn’t moved out, plus free legal advice and domestic emergency cover for three months.
