Legal and General is to launch pet cover for cats and dogs direct, online and over the phone, as well as through Confused.com.

The pet cover will come in three options with increasing degrees of cover, and has been designed by specialist pet insurer Ultimate Pet Partners.

L&G will also offer a 24 hour vet advice line, as well as a pet sitter service and a facility to find a vet.

L&G direct general insurance director Mike Lawler said that the insurer’s research indiciated that of 13m pet owners, 64% have no pet cover in place.

“We are committed to understanding what our customers need from their insurer and delivering insurance solutions that provide transparent and competitive products for those needs.

“So importantly, customers have the peace of mind and reassurance that we have put in place a service that will be there to help them. They can focus on making sure their pet has the attention they deserve, if they should be unwell or have an accident.”
