Since the summer of 2016, big political events have dominated the headlines, but what role, if any, should they play in investment portfolios?

UK investors have had to deal with the unexpected results of the Brexit referendum and the General Election. Elsewhere, Donald Trump’s election as president of the United States of America confounded pollsters, and elections across the Eurozone threatened to disrupt the Eurozone project.

But how much focus should investors pay on these big political events, and what do they mean for investment portfolios?
