Reigning Premier League champions Manchester United reported record revenues for the 12 months to June yesterday.

The Red Devils said revenues rose 13.4% to £363m in the last year, buoyed by a huge jump in commercial revenues which are up nearly a third.

The club, controlled by the Glazer family, said the big rise in commercial revenues was driven by sponsorship deals, while improvements in merchandising and product licensing revenues also provided a boost.

It made a net profit of £146m, while adjusted profit for the period was £17.2m.

The figures are the first released by United since David Moyes took over as manager following the retirement of Sir Alex Ferguson last season.

The club transformed into one of football’s global financial powerhouses during his tenure, and was floated on the New York Stock Exchange last year.

Yesterday shares rose 2% to $17.47 following the release of the results.

Ed Woodward, Manchester United’s executive vice chairman, said: “We are very proud of our results. Our commercial business continues to be a very powerful engine of growth enabling the team to continue to be successful.”
