Andy Parsons, head of investment research and advisory services at The Share Centre, picks the Old Mutual UK Mid-Cap as this month’s featured fund.

“This month we are featuring the Old Mutual UK Mid-Cap fund. The fund, which was the second most traded at The Share Centre in September, seeks to provide capital growth for investors. Launched back in 2002, the fund has been managed by Richard Watts since 2008 and seeks to invest primarily in a portfolio of medium sized UK companies.

“The investment process is driven by a combination of bottom-up and top-down analysis, with the top down element taking a strategic, longer term view of the business cycle. Individual stock selection seeks to identify those companies that have the potential to deliver across a number of key characteristics, such as strong management, ability to grow earnings faster than the market, generate a positive surprise or be re-rated. The portfolio will generally comprise of around 50 stocks.”
