Brits miss out on £100m in cash benefits each year

Brits who belong to clubs, gyms and other organisations could be throwing away more than £100m every year in savings and benefits, according to a new survey.

A survey of more than 2,000 UK adults found that 78% belong to, or pay a regular subscription to, at least one organisation.

However, more than half of those who are members of at least one organisation or service said that they didn’t know or forget what is available to them.

The survey, by iMember – a site that tracks memberships to clubs and organisations for its members, highlighted that an estimated 10 million people who belong to some kind of club are often entitled to benefits that exceed £100 a year, with most people simply forgetting to use them or be in-the-know as to what benefits they can claim.

Younger members of clubs and organisations lose out the most, with 63% of 18-24 year olds not knowing how many organisations they actually belong to – therefore unaware as to what benefits they are missing out on.

This passivity problem is not just exclusive to the young adult market. One in six (16%) members of organisations or services ‘cannot be bothered’ to use membership benefits.

Almost one in ten (9%) said that they ‘don’t have time’ to use the offers that are rightfully theirs – even though as a member of an organisation it makes sense to reap the rewards that come with belonging, whether it’s a discounted hotel stay or cheaper health insurance.
