Natwest has faced intermittent problems with online and mobile banking on Black Friday – a bumper spend day for bargain hunters.

A message on its social media accounts and homepage states that it’s experiencing issues with its online banking, mobile app and Bankline.

The problems were first seen at 9am today. As well as it being Black Friday, many employees also get paid on the last Friday of the month.

Customers have taken to Twitter to vent their frustration. One wrote: “I paid cash into my account at the Post Office at 11:30am, it has still not reached my account, payments online are being declined, money is not showing in my account. This process is usually immediate, why is it taking so long?”.

Another wrote: “Wanting to go shopping to get things for my 11 week old baby and can’t check my account to budget. Absolute joke”.

Natwest said that if customers need to complete a transaction, this can be done through its telephone banking service or in branch. It added that there is no impact on debit card, credit cards or ATMs.

A statement read: “We apologise for any inconvenience that this may cause, we are working to resolve this issue as quickly as possible.”
