Supermarket Tesco has seen its half-yearly profits rise 10.3% to £1.09bn, a figure boosted by international sales.

Overall sales rose 12.7% in the six months to 26 August, with overseas profits rising by 21.1%. Sales abroad are increasing three times faster than in the UK.

“These are phenomenal figures and the growth of Tesco is almost frightening now,” said retail analyst Debbie Harrison.
“Its move into potentially vast markets like China could see it in a super league of retailers.”
