Rates close to the top for time being?

Anna Bowes, co-founder of Savings Champion, said: “Another month and once again best buy rates have gone up across the board – but the real movement has been among the short-term fixed term bonds, which have increased by over 26% since the beginning of August. If things were to continue at the current pace, we’ll be back to pre-pandemic levels in no time. Here’s hoping, but with some of the key providers, such as Zopa, Allica Bank and SmartSave actually reducing rates more recently, things might not continue to progress as the same rate. Could we be close to the top for the time being?

“It’s not just the short-term fixed term bonds that have seen some meaningful increases, but also one and two year fixed rate ISAs have increased by up to 21% in the last month. These best rates still lag behind the non ISA equivalents quite significantly, but at least they haven’t been ignored by the banks completely.”

All rates correct as of 06/09/21.
