The ideal home
The ideal home is a newly built, detached property in the countryside, according to research from Halifax mortgages.
Half of people surveyed, by the lender, said they would prefer a detached house, with one third desiring a countryside property, and a quarter of respondents favouring newly built houses.
Phil Jenks, head of mortgages for Halifax says people are buying new build property in the main because “it gives them the option to buy off plan, choosing their own fixtures and fittings and sometimes even the lay out of their home while maintenance costs may also be lower during the first couple of years”.
Other types of desirable houses which were mentioned included bungalows, which attracted 17% of homebuyers, more than one in 10 wanted a conversion, while only 5% sought a semi-detached.
