Package holidays are back in favour for two fifths of travel hungry Brits, despite research showing that booking each aspect of a holiday separately can work out cheaper.

According to research by vouchercodes.co.uk, half of consumers plan to jet off this summer.

Two thirds of those who choose a package holiday do so just to keep a lid on the costs as they think a package deal works out cheaper than booking the holiday in separate stages.

The report found that it’s not just low earners choosing package deals. Two in five high earners have booked a package holiday this summer, a quarter doing so to save money.

Vouchercodes.co.uk found that booking each aspect of a holiday can save the average Brits as much as £150 per adult for a one week break.

Duncan Jennings, co-founder of VoucherCodes.co.uk, said: “When summer approaches, it is natural for people to look forward to a hard-earned holiday. Unfortunately, sometimes the cost of booking each individual element can rack up a hefty bill, leading to households believing a trip is out of their reach. But savvy UK adults looking to make their money go further are turning to package deals this year to cut costs by almost £150 a time, a significant saving that can be used to enjoy themselves on their break or put away in the piggy bank.”

However, a recent report from Post Office Travel Money, which compared the prices of All Inclusive and B&B holiday packages in six popular European hotspots, found that in certain popular destinations it works out cheaper to book each aspect of a holiday separately to get the best deal.

It revealed Brits could save money in some European destinations by booking a B&B holiday, eating in resort restaurants and buying drinks in local bars. The biggest potential saving was found in Portugal’s Algarve, where canny travellers could save more than £648 per couple by swapping an All Inclusive holiday for a B&B one.

Holidaymakers who know that they are more likely to want to eat out just to break up the monotony of always eating at the hotel restaurant may find that it works out cheaper to book each aspect of a holiday separately.

Eating out in certain resorts can rack up, especially if you have already paid for food and drink as part of the package holiday.
