The number of complaints Barclays Bank received about mis-sold payment protection insurance (PPI) between January and June increased 2% year-on-year.

In the first half of the 2013, the bank received 290,525 general insurance and pure protection complaints, the vast majority of which related to PPI. This is a year-on-year increase of 2% compared to 285,613 received in the first half of 2012.

Barclays released the figures today as part of a new commitment to engage more regularly with customers and consumer groups.

The data also revealed that total Barclays complaints excluding PPI were down 46% to 91,215 in the first six months of the year, while total banking complaints were down 48% to 81,222.

The bank has promised to publish complaint volumes every three months, twice as often as required by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA).

Earlier this year Barclays topped the regulator’s list of most complained about banks.
