Apple has launched its new iPhone range, including its most expensive handset to date.

Gadget fans will be able to choose from three new iPhones: the iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, and iPhone 11 Pro Max.

A 64GB iPhone 11 will cost £729 direct from Apple, or from £529 if you trade-in a previous iPhone. You’ll pay more for bigger storage: £779 for 128GB, or £879 for £256.

Trade-in values vary based on the condition, year and configuration of the device you trade-in.

The next model up – the iPhone 11 Pro – will cost from £1,049 or from £759 with trade-in for a 64GB model. 256GB of storage will set you back £1,199, and 512GB £1,399.

The iPhone 11 Pro Max is the most expensive option and will set you back £1,149 if you buy the 64Gb model direct from Apple, or from £859 if you trade-in a previous iPhone. The 256GB version starts from £1,299 and the 512GB model from £1,499.

All three handsets will be available to pre-order from Apple UK on 13 September, and go on sale a week later on 20 September.

The same date should see networks announce bundled deals including both a handset and airtime – details are yet to come about these.

iPhone 11 features

The iPhone 11 will comes with new dual 12MP cameras front and centre, with a new wide-angle shot feature, as well as better night photos and zoom.

The camera also boasts AI filtering which will bring out sharper colours, plus a new “slow-motion selfies” feature – images that have already been dubbed “slofies” on Twitter.

Other features include a new graphics processing unit, a longer battery life, and water resistance for a brief time period up to 2 metres.

The iPhone 11 Pro and Pro Max come with an extra camera with a telephoto lens, a wide lens and an ultra-wide lens. They are bigger too – the iPhone 11 Pro has a 5.8 inch display and the Pro Max a 6.5 inch display.

Apple claims the two Pro models’ batteries will last between four to five hours longer than their XS predecessors. It also said a new feature called Deep Fusion would be added via a software update later in the year. Deep Fusion takes nine snaps with a variety of exposures and then picks through them “pixel by pixel” to combine the best parts from each to create a superior image.

Apple also revealed the Series 5 Watch, which features an “always on” display for the first time.

James Brown, director at smartphone and gadget insurer ProtectYourBubble.com, said: “Gadget fans will have been in raptures as Apple announced the iPhone 11, plus a new iPad and Apple Watch. As expected, Apple introduced three versions of the iPhone 11: the basic model plus the ‘Pro’ and ‘Pro Max’ alternatives.

“Exciting additions include ‘spatial audio’ for watching video, which is like surround sound for your iPhone. Plus the iPhone camera set-up gets a much-needed boost. The basic model has wide and ultra-wide lenses, allowing photographers to take snaps with a 120-degree view. But the addition of a telephoto lens that offers a 4x optical zoom is limited to the two ‘Pro’ models.

“And selfie fans have a new tool: the ‘slofie’, which is what Apple is labelling its new slow-motion front-facing video camera. Expect to see a million ‘slofies’ to pop up on Instagram on the day the iPhone launches.”

Apple’s announcement comes a week after Samsung announced the launch of the Galaxy Fold 5G smartphone.
