A notice on the retailer’s website says: “Gift cards will be an accepted method of payment until midnight tonight. Thereafter gift cards will not be accepted.”

Mothercare went into administration last week after it failed to find a buyer for its UK stores.

All 79 stores will be closed over the coming weeks and months, according to administrators PWC.

The retailer is currently selling most products at reduced prices both online and in-store, but it is unclear how long the sale will last.

In the financial year ending March 2019, Mothercare generated profits of £28.3m internationally but UK retail operations lost £36.3m.

It is the latest in a long line of household names which have gone into administration in 2019. Others include Thomas Cook, Bathstore, and Debenhams.
