Three million Tesco Clubcard vouchers due to expire next week. Can you extend?

Three million Tesco Clubcard holders need to spend £11.5m worth of vouchers before they expire on 31 August.

Clubcard members collect points every time they spend money in Tesco stores or online. For every £1 you spend on groceries or £2 you spend on fuel, you get one point. Tesco shoppers can also collect points through Tesco Bank and Tesco Mobile.

You need a minimum of 150 points to get a Clubcard voucher, which is worth £1.50 to spend in Tesco. However, you can double the value of your points if you exchange them for reward vouchers which can be used with partners such as Thorpe Park, Pizza Express and the RAC.

For example, 500 points are usually worth £5 to spend at Tesco – but if you exchange your vouchers for codes to spend with a reward partner, 500 points become £10.

Up until 15 June 2023, Clubcard holders could swap vouchers for triple their value but Tesco slashed the value to just double.

Clubcard vouchers are only valid for two years, with one tranche due to expire at the end of August. You can check the expiry date on paper vouchers or on the Tesco Clubcard site or app.

How to extend Clubcard vouchers

If you don’t want to spend your Clubcard vouchers, MoneySavingExpert.com has a handy trick to extend them for another two years, but you must act before 11.59pm on 31 August.

Here’s how it works:

  • Make a small purchase on the Tesco Clubcard Rewards page (not in store or on other Tesco pages) and the remaining balance is credited back to your Clubcard account as points.
  • They’ll then be reissued as new vouchers (with an expiry date up to two years in the future) when you next get a batch. So if you spend 50p using a £10 Clubcard voucher, you’ll get £9.50 back as new vouchers.
  • A good option might be a 50p restaurant voucher (worth £1 at your chosen restaurant).
  • You’ll need to do this for each individual voucher though, so weigh up if it’s actually worth it for smaller denominations.
