Mobile users can try out Vodafone in the capital free of charge for seven days without changing their number. Participants in the trial get 50GB of data, 500 minutes and 500 texts on Vodafone for use within seven days.
What is an eSIM?
An eSIM is an embedded SIM – an electronic alternative to a physical, plastic SIM card – that connects your mobile phone to a mobile network to make calls, send texts and use the internet.
With an eSIM, you can choose and activate a mobile plan from your service provider without having to insert a physical SIM into your phone.
How to get a free eSIM
To take advantage of the trial, non-Vodafone mobile customers need an eSIM-compatible phone. To take part, they need to scan a QR code (which can be found across London) or visit the Vodafone website to sign up online. The eSIM will then be installed via the My Vodafone app.
Customers can join the network trial without changing their existing number or swapping their SIM card. They can simply switch between Vodafone’s network and their current provider easily through their device settings.

Vodafone intends to expand the trial across various cities in 2025 and will also offer it at events throughout the summer, including Glastonbury Festival and Boardmasters Festival.
‘No strings’
Vodafone claims the free trial is a European first and that the deal comes “with no commitments or strings attached”.
Rob Winterschladen, consumer director at Vodafone UK, said: “As London’s best network, we pride ourselves on connecting this great city to the people and things they love. We know how important it is for people to stay connected, so they can work on the move, stream their favourite TV show or movie, or simply contact friends and family.
“With no strings attached, customers of any network have a chance to join our trial for seven days, completely free of charge. So, if they’re experiencing issues with their current provider or just fancy trying London’s best network, then now is the perfect time.”
Vodafone is set to merge with Three later this year.
