These destinations have been removed from the quarantine exempt list for arrivals from 4am Sunday 18 October.

This means anyone arriving in England from these destinations, whether by train, ferry, coach, air, or any other route, even a transit stop, will need to self-isolate for 14 days.

The government said the destinations have been removed from the list of safe travel corridors for England as weekly cases and positive tests are increasing.

The Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) has updated its travel advice to advise against all but essential travel to Italy and San Marino.

Meanwhile, the Greek island of Crete has been added to the government’s travel corridor list for England meaning holidaymakers won’t need to self-isolate upon arrival (from 4am on Sunday 18 October).

It is also exempt from the FCDO’s global advisory against non-essential travel as the island poses a lower infection risk as confirmed cases have decreased.

However, all travellers, including those from exempt destinations, will still be required to show a completed passenger locator form on arrival in the UK unless they fall into a small group of exemptions.

Penalties for those breaching the self-isolation rules when returning from non-exempt countries have increased from £1,000 for first offence up to £10,000 for subsequent offences.
