Both Premium Bonds jackpot winners of £1m in April’s draw had sizeable holdings of over £40,000.

The first winner drawn had a holding of £43,165 with the bond number 494WG724922 and is based in South Yorkshire.

They were the third millionaire winner to come from South Yorkshire. Next to be drawn out of the hat and awarded £1m was an account holder based in Hertfordshire with £50,000 in their Premium Bonds account, which has been open since October 2020.

The bond number drawn was 418AW560890, and they became the 17th jackpot winner from Hertfordshire.

While the two millionaires had larger pots, which helps the chances of winning, in third place and winning £50,000 was an account holder from Hereford and Worcester. They have a holding of just £300 from February 2010.

There were 78 account holders who scooped £100,000 this month as part of the 5.9 million cash prizes worth £412m. To find out if you’ve bagged one of the Premium Bonds prizes, head to the NS&I website with your bond number to find out.

You can also check with the app using either the bond number or NS&I number to confirm if you are one of the two-and-a-half million account holders who have unclaimed prizes waiting for them.

The total amount of this forgotten cash pot stands at £97m.

South Yorkshire and Hertfordshire, the locations of this month’s winners, are responsible for 23,241 and 56,335 unclaimed prizes respectively.

Unclaimed prizes

The biggest prize yet to be collected in South Yorkshire is £25,000, which is from the November 2022 draw. In Hertfordshire, there are two £25,000 prizes from September 2021 and June 2023 waiting to be claimed.

Last month, the Premium Bond millionaires hailed from North Yorkshire and Cumbria in the first event since NS&I announced the prize fund rate would be cut to 3.8% from 4%.

Andrew Westhead, NS&I’s retail director, said: “Huge congratulations to our winners in South Yorkshire and Hertfordshire – these April jackpots highlight the life-changing potential of Premium Bonds for savers everywhere.

“It’s not just about the jackpot millionaires – this month, ERNIE awarded more than 5.9 million prizes worth over £412m, giving many customers something to smile about.
