High street bank staff who missed sales targets were named and shamed, forced to work late and threatened with the sack, Unite the union has said.

The union, which has about 130,000 financial services workers as members, said the high-pressure sales environment – which led to payment protection insurance (PPI) mis-seling, also harmed bank workers.

The Times reports eight out of ten workers at one big retail bank were stressed because of unrealistically high sales targets.

Unite called on other banks to follow the lead of Co-operative Bank and Barclays by scrapping sales-linked bonuses for customer facing staff. It made the comments in a submission to the Financial Services Authotiy.
