Tuesday and Wednesday are where the action is this week as Kingfisher, Compass Group and United Utilities prepare to update the markets.

Monday 24 November

Cranswick – interim management statement

GB Group – interim management statement

Tuesday 25 November

Kingfisher – third quarter trading update

Kingfisher’s UK business is improving while the French arm is suffering due to the poor economic backdrop across the Channel. The performance of both will of interest to investors on Tuesday, as will management’s expectations for the rest of the year. Keep in mind that Homebase, the great rival to Kingfisher’s B&Q, recently decided to close a quarter of its stores.

Severn Trent – second quarter results

The regulatory review on 12 December is the main point of interest for Severn Trent investors, so don’t expect too much excitement from this update. Followers of the sector will be eyeing operational costs and any comments on future dividend policy.

Wednesday 26 November

Compass Group – fourth quarter results

The market is confident of a five per cent increase in Compass Group’s overall dividend for the year and a slight increase in full-year earnings is also expected. Good growth in emerging markets and the US along with news on trading in Japan and Europe will also be noteworthy. The impact of lower food and fuel prices in the UK on Compass Group’s bottom line will be of interest, as will any potential acquisitions.

United Utilities – second quarter results

Trading is expected to be in line with expectations for United Utilities, but any comments regarding efficiency plans and regulatory reviews will be of interest.

Wolseley – interim management statement

Wolseley is focused on improving customer service, maintaining market share and margins, cutting costs and generating cash. Recent updates have indicated improvement in the US, so investors will be hoping that the region continues to improve and the performance of European operations – which have been mixed recently – will be of interest.

Thursday 27 November

Acal – interim results

Marston’s – fourth quarter results
