Outgoing Bank of England governor Sir Mervyn King is to appear on BBC Radio 4’s Desert Island Discs on Sunday.

Confirmation of the interview, with Kirsty Young, caused a stir of speculation on Twitter about what his musical choices and luxury item might be, the Telegraph reports.

Former Monetary Policy Committee member Andrew Sentance, a vocal opponent to quantitative easing, suggested that his former Bank of England colleague might choose Easy Money.

The report quoted him as saying “Many artists have songs with this title,” tweeted Sentance, who plays in the folk rock band Revelation. “Billy Joel, King Crimson, Rickie Lee Jones and ELO.”

“If QE goes wrong, The Clovers’ Your Cash Ain’t Nothin’ But Trash might soon fit the bill,” said the consumer campaign Save Our Savers, adding that The Steve Miller Band’s Take the Money and Run “seems appropriate”, when referring to King’s pension pot.
