Brits upbeat about retirement
A new survey from Clerical Medical has shown 77% of Brits are positive about retirement, with 1 in 3 aspiring to retire abroad.
Of those wishing to move abroad, 49% had chosen Spain or Europe, 9% went for Australia and 6% chose America. The survey also found a generational trend towards greater retirement aspirations around travel and part-time work.
Only half of the respondents said their parents or grandparents travelled in retirement. However, 81% plan to travel domestically themselves and 77% are planning international trips. Of those surveyed, 1 in 4 did not want anything like the lifestyle their parents or grandparents had as a pensioner.
Paul Shelley, spokesperson for Clerical Medical, said: “The future retiree has great aspirations for travel, career, hobbies and buying new cars – 1 in 6 see themselves driving a sports car – but they’re realistic about having to work longer to fund their aspirations.”
“Making your money work harder is crucial to achieving short- and long-term goals and seeking the advice of a financial adviser is a step in the right direction,” he added.
