Alexa Plus will be powered by generative AI and provide direct competition to AI-enhanced voice assistants offered by Apple and Google.

Amazon confirmed the pricing of the new service at Amazon’s 2025 devices event, describing Alexa Plus as “your new personal AI assistant that gets things done – she’s smarter, more conversational, more capable…”

How much will Alexa Plus cost?

Alexa Plus will initially only be available in the US, with an international roll-out expected to follow soon.

In the US, Alexa Plus will be free for Amazon Prime members and cost $19.99 per month for non-Prime users. The service will be available in March to some users, with the roll-out expanding to more people over time.

According to Reuters, Amazon had considered pricing the service at $5 or $10 per month for all users with no Prime tie-in.

What will Alexa Plus do?

Alexa is voice-controlled software installed in products such as smart speakers that can provide answers to user questions, play music, set timers and serve as a hub for home automation.

Generative AI is a type of artificial intelligence (AI) that can learn from data and improve over time. The new Alexa AI service will be able to respond to multiple prompts in sequence – this contrasts with the current iteration, which generally handles only a single request at a time.

According to Amazon, Alexa Plus will be able to control your smart home by working in conjunction with products from Philips Hue, Roborock, and more. It can also make reservations or appointments with OpenTable and Vagaro, and explore music from providers including Amazon Music, Spotify, Apple Music, and iHeartRadio.

Alexa Plus will also be able to order groceries from Amazon Fresh and Whole Foods Market, or delivery from Grubhub and Uber Eats, as well as reminding you when tickets go on sale on Ticketmaster.

Panos Panay, Amazon’s head of devices and services, said: “Alexa knows almost every instrument in your life, your schedule, your smart home, your preferences, the devices you’re using, the people you’re connected to, the entertainment you love and uses many of the apps you use, a lot of the services you need.”
