Whether it’s for a Valentine, Galentine or Palentine – or a gift just for you – there’s a flurry of love-themed meal deals to enjoy this year.

Tesco, Aldi and Marks & Spencer are among the retailers spicing up their meal deals this year, with many of the offers lasting beyond 14 February.

While the deals may contain love hearts and roses, the retailers have not introduced a requirement to show a wedding ring or social media relationship status to secure any of the special dining offers.

Each of the offers listed is advertised for two diners, but each could work as a treat to dip into over the weekend too.

Tesco

Tesco’s offer lasts until 15 February and is for Clubcard holders only. It is £18 for a main, starter, side, dessert and choice of wine, beer, prosecco or Nozecco.

Mains are selected from the Tesco Finest range and include Al Forno Lasagne, beef featherblade with rich treacle jus, slow-cooked duck legs with a port and berry sauce, and cheddar and caramelised red onion tarts.

Side choices include dauphinois potatoes, triple-cooked chips and three cheese and chive cauliflower gratin.

The desserts are a mix of classics like lemon meringue pie and rhubarb crumble panna cotta.

If you opt for a meaty main (£8.25) and a bottle of wine (£8.50), the other dishes are essentially free.

Asda

Asda’s alternative offers a starter, main, two sides and a dessert plus a drink for £11.97.

Whoever you share the deal with, it could save you £12.86 versus if you purchased the dishes separately.

Your meal could kick off with Bistro prawn cocktail, goat’s cheese and caramelised onion tarts, and crispy mac and cheese bites for starters.

Mains on offer include a sirloin with smoked garlic and pink peppercorn heart butter pellet and mushroom Stroganoff pies as one of the vegan options.

Desserts range from the romantic vanilla panna cotta hearts with heritage raspberry and Prosecco jelly to the more traditional melt-in-the-middle Belgian chocolate pudding.

The deal runs until 16 February but is subject to how long the Valentine’s stocks last.

Aldi

Aldi – the cheapest supermarket of 2024 – has won the price war on Valentine’s Day with a meal for a possible total of £5.98.

Until 16 February, there are three meal deal options, with standard, premium and vegan alternatives to choose from.

The standard option means you can dine for £2.99 per person and has pizza flavours of spicy pepperoni or semi-dried tomatoes and mozzarella in a heart shape to choose from. More heart-shaped delights come in the form of garlic bread for a side and pancakes as a dessert.

Its premium offer rises to £7.47 per person and has tempura prawns for starters and a heart-shaped lobster pasta dish for mains.

There is also a vegan option of tomato and basil arancini with a caramelised – you guessed it – heart-shaped sponge pudding, which is also £7.47.

If you want to make a toast, Aldi’s Prosecco Spumante DOC is reduced to £4.75 for the special occasion.

Marks & Spencer

Marks & Spencer’s Valentine’s version ends tonight (14 February) and offers three courses plus a bottle of Prosecco, wine, cocktail can or non-alcoholic fizz for £25.

It has the widest range of options among its starter, main and dessert choices.

Starters range from British Wagyu beef pie (with a love heart etched into the pastry) to salmon and prawn en croutes.

Side dishes include Mediterranean roast vegetables, cheesy green veg bake and loaded cheesy mash, while the desserts are stacked with chocolate traditional dishes.

Biggest savings and discounted roses

Morrisons and Waitrose offer the biggest savings on Valentine’s dine-in deals.

You’ll need a More Card to bag the £15 deal from Morrisons, which has a choice of a starter, main, side, dessert and drink.

Waitrose’s version is £20, so for £10 each, you can enjoy a starter, main, side, dessert, and prosecco to share.

It is the most expensive out of the supermarkets, but you can save almost the price of the deal (£18.25) based on the individual cost of each dish.

Away from romantic (or otherwise) food options, Lidl has 18 classic red roses on offer for £9.99 and a dozen available for £3.99.

A deluxe single red rose is priced at £2.49 until the end of 14 February.
