Aldi has revealed more price cuts as it gears up for what is predicts will be “its biggest Christmas yet”.

The budget supermarket has lowered prices on almost 40 products by an average of almost 10%, including meat, fish and other household staples.

Shoppers can enjoy price drops on items such as chicken goujons, beef mince, sausages and salmon fillets, as well as on a range of produce items and cupboard essentials.

Aldi recently announced an investment of about £12m in cutting prices of seasonal staples. The retailer has already dropped the price on more than 300 products over the past few months.

Julie Ashfield, managing director of buying at Aldi UK, said: “We know that this time of year can be an expensive time for everyone, which is why we are cutting more prices than ever before in December.

“Our commitment to always keep our prices as low as possible for customers is going nowhere and we continue to see shoppers switch to Aldi for this very reason.”

Examples of price reductions

The newly reduced items at Aldi include:

  • Ashfields Chicken Goujons – Breaded & Southern Fried – down from £1.99 to £1.79
  • Ashfields British Pork Shoulder Steaks – down from £4.39 to £3.99
  • Specially Selected The Ultimate Burger – down from £2.99 to £2.69
  • Specially Selected 10pk Pork Sausages – down from £3.99 to £3.29
  • Village Bakery Bake At Home White Rolls 300g – down from 85p to 79p
  • Lock Ten Brewery Pale Ale/IPA 4 pack – down from £4.99 to £3.99

Earlier this month, Aldi was named the cheapest supermarket in the UK for November by Which? Lidl was the cheapest supermarket in October but, according to Which?’s calculations, Aldi held the top spot for a 16-month streak before that.
