The number of out of work people in the UK fell by 4,000 between April and June but the unemployment rate remained at 7.8%, official figures show.

The number of unemployed fell to 2.51 million, down 4,000 from January to March 2013 and down 49,000 from the same period last year, according to the Office for National Statistics.

However the unemployment rate remained at 7.8%, unchanged from the previous quarter, but down 0.2 percentage points from a year earlier.

The new Bank of England governor, Mark Carney has said the Bank will only review the base rate of 0.5% when the unemployment rate falls to 7% or below.
