O2 customers signed up to the O2 Priority app enjoyed receiving weekly codes that entitled them to a free hot drink and sausage roll at Greggs.
Hot drink codes were issued on a first come, first served basis. A minimum of 10,000 codes were available each day from Monday to Saturday and 7,000 on a Sunday. At least 25,000 codes for Greggs food were released each Friday and Saturday at 7am.
But this has all changed as of today (12 September), with customers only able to get one discounted drink and snack each month. Bye bye to the freebies.
YourMoney.com first reported the food and drink freebie shake-up earlier this month, and was told by O2 that the change had been introduced after “members’ feedback”. But this statement left customers baffled.
At the time, one posted on X, formerly known as Twitter: “Hey O2, nobody suggested this as feedback to the current Greggs rewards did they. You don’t have to lie to us.”
A message on the Priority app at the end of August wrote: “We’re switching up your Greggs rewards from 12 September 2024.
“We know how loved the Greggs rewards are, so we’ve taken our members’ feedback on board before making any changes.
“That’s why our new ones give you even more choice, and allow more people to grab savings at Greggs every month.”
The message explained that from 12 September, “the current Greggs rewards won’t be available” and that Priority would offer two new rewards. These will be one hot drink from Greggs for £1 each month, and one Greggs savoury treat for £1 each month.
Food fans won’t be limited to the Greggs sausage roll as they were previously. Instead, foodies can choose from other items on the Greggs menu, such as the steak bake or pizza slice.
There are also time restrictions for claiming the discounted food and drink. The £1 hot drinks will only be available between 7am and 11.30am, and £1 savoury treats between 11.30am and 7pm.
The O2 Priority app offers a range of promotions and discounts from selected high street stores, restaurants and events. There are also regular competitions, and access to VIP queues and lounges at O2 venues.
Virgin Media and O2 merged in 2021 to create Virgin Media O2 – so Virgin Media customers also have access to Priority.
A Virgin Media O2 spokesperson said: “We regularly review and update our Priority rewards to ensure we continue to provide members with the best possible choice and value.
“As part of that, we are launching two new Greggs rewards from 12 September that will allow even more Priority members to enjoy savings on their favourite hot drinks on a day that suits them, a wider selection of savoury treats each month, and benefit from other seasonal treats and surprises throughout the year.”
