Customers are being warned against buying the Space NK beauty advent calendar from anywhere except the official site.

Scammers have been advertising the £250 calendar, which contains a beauty or body product behind every door, for £28.99 on Instagram and Facebook, which are both owned by online giant Meta.

Space NK said it only sells via its own website – and its advent calendar is currently sold out online. It claims the contents of the calendar have a combined value of £1,200.

As well as a selection of beauty products, the calendar could include a ‘Golden Ticket’, which is a prize draw with a Dyson Airwrap and Chitosan Post Style Serum (worth a combined £530) as the prize.

Jini Sanassy, head of PR at Space NK, said: “We are aware that fraudulent imitations of our website are circulating on social media platforms. The issue has been immediately reported to Meta and our legal team are working to shut these websites down.”

Health and beauty advent calendars

Health and beauty calendars are big business, with some offerings from luxury brands becoming cult favourites each Christmas.

The calendars typically contain products with a combined value of much more than the retail price of the calendar. Not only does this make them good value as gifts, but Christmas shoppers can save money by buying a beauty advent calendar and re-gifting the contents as Christmas presents.

Some of the best value calendars this year include the Look Fantastic calendar, which costs £100 but is worth £565, and the Sephora Favourites advent calendar, which costs £199 but is estimated to be worth more than £1,000.

Cheaper calendars include the Revolution Magical Advent Calendar, which is £40 at Superdrug, and the Soap & Glory advent calendar, which is now £38.40 at Boots, down from £48, with contents worth £105.

As advent calendars become more enticing, there are likely to be more criminals targeting consumers looking to buy them

How to stay safe from scammers this Christmas

  • Check the URL of any website carefully
  • Question why something may be at such a low price
  • Report any suspicious websites to the National Cyber Security Centre.
